A Joyful Goodbye

I thought last Saturday was going to be a hard day. I had prepared myself for what was scheduled to happen. It was the day I was meeting Dayna in Longwood at the vets office. As a pet sitter going to the vet is a common occurence for me, but when I go to say goodbye to one of my beloved critters, it changes everything. I get so attached to all my critters and Holly was no exception. When one gets sick , hurt or the worst passes away, it makes for the worst of days. That’s the one thing about my work that is the worst of all.

Holly was rescued by Dayna from a shelter and was going to be put down. The shelter that she came from had no information on her. All what Dayna had to go on was what she was looking at. Holly was born with a few birth defects. Her head was permanently  tilted and she had unusually short legs which made it difficult for her to jump up on things like most cats do. Dayna took her immediately to the vet and the vet said that Holly didn’t know she had any birth defects  and for the most part she was pretty healthy. When Dayna got her she had no claws, so being an outside cat was out of the question. What Dayna did discover over the few months, is  that she had  a few behavioral problems. Again Dayna took her to the vet for advice and to seek whatever treatment may work for Holly. That didn’t stop Holy from being a feisty little girl.  She made herself known to anyone in the house and that she was the dominate one of the house. As the saying goes dynamite comes in small packages. That’s Holly…

I was holding on to hope and  hoping for a last-minute miracle. Well, I’m here to tell you that a miracle did happen on Saturday. When all hope was gone a vet tech walked in and started to tell Dayna and I her story. Osha was her name and she moved to Orlando a few years back and with that move she brought a wealth of experience with cats. Her resume of what she has done and who she has worked with is very impressive. Too much to list but so incredible.  She has saved the lives of cats that were at the end of the line. Dayna wanted more than anything for Holly to live, so she agreed to let Osha take her and work with her at her home. I will continue to get progress reports on Holly and deep you all informed.
