Wheels For Legs

I was just having an extremely stressful sad day last week.  I had to take Mickey to the vet in Maitland and did not know if he could be saved or worse would have to be put down. So I was not full of smiles that morning, until I met Darla. As  a pet sitter, you meet so many different critters and some just stick out in your mind and you just can’t forget them. On this stressful day, I did not know it but a sign of hope was coming my way and I wasn’t even on a dog walk at the time. Once I met Darla, my whole day changed.
Darla is a Yorkie and just sweet and full of life. Most of all she is a true example of a dog’s will to fight to live. Darla has a companion at home. He’s a Lab. They are the best of buddies and truly know what friendship is all about. Their friendship was tested last year just before Christmas. As usual they were playing around, then the unthinkable happen. The loyal friend and companion the lab just placed his paw on her back and a loud crack was heard.

Darla suffered a slip disc and had become paralyzed from the waist down. The beauty of this story is that Darla loves her companion so much and values their friendship that in her mind there was nothing to forgive. They went through this injury together and are even closer because of it. They still play daily and are loyal to each other. Thanks to the love of Darla’s mom, Darla has been given a second chance at being mobile.  When you hear this story,  you feel so sorry for her, but don’t. She has so many friends and still has her playtime with her loyal friend the Lab. She is so full of life, kindness, and is a classy young doggie. She has become the  greeter at the Maitland vet office, spreading her  unique cheer and message of hope.
I’m so grateful to have met her because it gave me so much hope. I think it was God’s way of telling me at that moment that Mickey was going to have his chance and he was answering my pray.
