Multiple First Times

Is that the right cat? That’s what I asked  the vet yesterday in Longwood when I picked up Emilio. They knew exactly what I was talking about because I thought they did a switch. When Emilio went back to the vet last week, I truly thought I would never see him again. To my surprise when they brought him out to me he was sitting up. Something I never saw once. He was meowing as well. Something I never heard  him do.Remember this was the cat Dayna rescued from the shelter in Orlando and he was by himself shaking in the corner.

I was so excited to take him back to the farm in Sorrento and get him all settled in. He had to be separated from the other pets because of his wounds were still not healed but I think that was fine with him. So I put him in the bathroom with his litter box, bedding, food and water. The big question was would he come out of his cage? I sat on the floor in front of him and opened the cage door and just gentle spoke to him. He really needed the reassurance that all was ok and he was safe.

To my delight he came out. The first time I saw him walk. He wanted to be loved on. I petted him for quite a while and he tried his best to purr. He still has an upper respiratory infection, so his purr does not sound like a normal purr. He loved it. I have a feeling this was the first time that Emilio had every been show love. Before Dayna got him, he had a loveless life. As a pet sitter, seeing this progress is just a huge reward and the best gift I could get.

Then he did something else I never saw him do, he ate a few bites of food. I could tell he was having a hard time  getting it down. His throat is still sore from the tube that was there. Yesterday was the first time I saw Emilio express the will to live. He now knows that people love him and he is trying to fight to get healthy, so he can live. Please keep him in your prayers, he’s not out of the woods yet. I will add a video so you can see him progress.
