Should I Be There

“Should I be there” I am often asked this question from clients, family and friends when it comes down to having to put their four-legged baby to sleep.
At first it was a very hard question for me to answer. Now after going through the experience a few times, I have become more aware of speaking out for the silent voice. Your precious critter. Yes be there.
As a pet sitter, I have gone through a lot of loss. Most of my clients, expect for Dayna, have from one to four pets. I have four of my own. I fall in love with all of my clients critters and they become my own in a way. The critters know that I love them. So when I have to go through a euthanizing  of one of my own and a clients, it just breaks my heart.
We shared our beloved Magic with my mother-n-law in South Apopka.  Magic was Booker‘s sister. He misses her to this very day. When we were told that she was in pain, the decision was made immediately to euthanize her.  We were all present. Magic somehow knew and came up to each of us to say goodbye but more importantly she was saying thank you for being here to say goodbye. The last thing that Magic saw was me. I put my face right in front of her. I just didn’t want her to think she was alone. Dayna from Sorrento had to put Cocoa down.  She reassured Cocoa and held her in her last moments. Dayna was there for Cocoa as she is for all her babies.

Cocoa was a traveling girl. She moved from Orlando to Longwood to Sorrento.

This is why I feel a pet owner and more importantly a Mommy or/and Daddy should be there for their baby. They are always there for you, they lick your tears, they read your mood, they greet you when you walk through the door like they have missed you like crazy, they accept you unconditionally, they lay in bed with you all day when you are sick, they follow you everywhere even into the bathroom, they protect you and they are there for you through the good times and bad. There’s so much more I could put on this list.
All that loyalty deserves your presence.
