Freak Accident

As a pet sitter it’s one of those phone calls that freak me out. When one of my clients call and tell me that there four-legged baby has had an accident. My heart skips a beat.

It all started about two weeks ago. I got a phone call from Megan saying that Stella was playing outside with her new baby brother Scout and twisted her back side. To Megan, at first, it looked like a pulled muscle nothing more. So just to be sure, she took Stella to her vet and the vet had a much different point of view. After Stella’s vet visit, I went over to do my normal dog walk. I was pretty shocked at Stella’s appearance. I knew something was terribly wrong. Her spine was arched up and her back legs were so wobbly when she walked. The only way to really describe it was that she appeared to be drunk.

Stella a few days after her surgery

To make a long story short. Stella had to be taken to AVS in Maitland. I call them the big boy vets. There amazing with a wealth of pet medical knowledge. They confirmed what Stella’s vet in Longwood said plus a little more. She had to have emergency back surgery that very day. There was no time to wait. I paced all day and would jump every time my phone rang. My stomach was so upset. Megan called at about 6pm to let me know that Stella made it and the vet at  AVS was very pleased with the outcome.

Stella is now home and has to be confined for two weeks. No walking, jumping etc. Well tell that to her. Not as easy as you think. The whole healing process is going to take up to 6 months. Stella has always been a very active healthy girl. She’s only 3. So this has completely changed Megan and Ernie’s routine. For now I have to limit my dog walks with her to a very confined area. She’s not happy about it.  Please keep Stella in your prayers. She is not out of the woods by any means. She may be a diva but boy do I love her. We have a bond and a very different connection that not too many people understand.
